Disaster strikes but we will push on

Hi all, last night whilst preparing our boys dinner at Windjana Gorge Nat Park in the Kimberleys we had trouble with our gas bottle and cooker. We disconnected it and rectified it to make sure all connections were secure. As I lit the burner a surge of flame run up along the hose and back to the gas bottle and within seconds the side of our Tambo camper literally set ablaze, there was panic amongst us all as we frantically tried to save it. It was like it just wasnt happening but the wick of flames upon my hand trying to save it affirmed what was unfolding right before me. Yes the camper and its entire contents was fully ablaze within about 45 seconds. It was horrific and yet a sense of calm touched my shoulder as I knew we were all unharmed and safe. The camper is insured and like the explorers did we will push on through this hardship. Yes we have only the clothes that we wear and have lost all our cooking equipment billys, woks, food and all bedding, stretchers, pillows, sleeping bags, Mini Mal (surfboard) and leas hand bag, a mobile phone, ipod and $3000 in cash. yup its sad but thats just life and we will grit our teeth and get on with it just like they did in the bushfires of recent. We are so lucky tonight as we have free accommodation in Derby at the "Womens Country Association" and they have even filled the fridge with food. Everybody has been so helpful in Derby in just pitching in and to top it all of it is Lea's Birthday. We will now go onto Broome for 6 nights and try to rent or purchase a replacement camper. The boys are fine and we are feeling like a strong unit. So dont pity us, we have our life and thats what counts.

  7. Hello intrepid travellers. So glad to hear you are all alright after your accident. Good job you've got insurance, hopefully you can replace the things you'll need for the rest of the trip (maybe even a few adjustments if you've realized there are other things you would prefer now...like another form of cooking!) Hope Broome is treating you well and you are all getting a chance to rest and recuperate from the excitement. Looking forward to the next exciting instalment of your trip - although hopefully not the same type of excitement as this blog! Love to you all. Trevor, Sam, Charlie and Seb. xx
